Sexually Assaulted Two 9 Yrs Old Girls, Released For Free Thanks To NJ Bail Reform
A Deptford man jailed last week on charges that he sexually assaulted two young girls at a Williamstown gymnastics facility was ordered released for free without any accountability on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
Joseph J. Catrambone, 29, who was employed as a coach at Atlantic Coach Gymnastics, allegedly touched the victims inappropriately on multiple occasions and in one case pushed a 9-year-old to the ground, causing her to strike her head, according to criminal complaints.
Catrambone is charged with three counts of sex assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of simple assault.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office objected to Catrambone’s release on Wednesday, based on the nature of the offenses and the potential that he will face prison time if convicted, GCPO spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said.
The first victim was allegedly assaulted in October 2016 and the other on March 23 and 24 of 2017, officials said.
In the October incident, the girl told investigators that she was lying on her stomach watching a gymnastics competition on an iPad with another girl when Catrambone allegedly kneeled on the floor between them and began massaging their buttocks over their clothing.
In the March incidents, the 9-year-old victim told investigators that Catrambone touched her genitals over her clothing, according to the complaint.
The next day, he allegedly became upset with the girl, pulled her hair and “eventually pushed her with such force that it caused her to strike her head on the floor.” He allegedly told the victim to lie about how she was injured, according to the complaint, and again touched her inappropriately.
All of the alleged assaults occurred at the gymnastics facility.
