Busted with $35,000 Suspected Drug Cash, released for free thanks to NJ Bail Reform

FORT LEE, New Jersey – A Philadelphia driver stopped in Fort Lee tried to stuff a bag packed with nearly $35,000 in suspected drug money under the seat of his car, authorities said.

Detectives who were on a drug investigation spotted the bag after they stopped the gold 2005 Honda Odyssey – at which point the driver, 22-year-old Michael De Castro tried to stuff it under the seat, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.

The cash was seized for forfeiture proceedings and De Castro was released on money laundering charges pending a Feb. 14 hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Released for free (on tax payers dollars) without any accountability or supervision thanks to NJ Bail Reform.
